DEMONS 5 d CONCORDES WHITE 2

AFTER a slow start to the season Concordes White has hit good form recently, but it was stopped in its tracks by ladder leader Demons in Saturday’s early match of Mount Gambier softball.

The game started off tightly with three batters up and three outs for both teams in the first innings.

The second innings remained a tussle as Concordes was held to no runs while Demons managed to score their first.

Demons excelled in the field, with Jo Hart not missing a fly catch at left field and the side’s youngest player Sofie Morale managing two outs in a row with a field and throw to first and a fly catch at second.

Kate Altschwager led Concordes White with her two safe hits for the game.

However, it was a pitcher’s duel on the day with a total of eight batters struck out in the batting box.

In a high-pressure finals like match, the strongest on the field took the honours.

In the end that was Demons, who claimed the win 5-2.

Demons now solidifies top spot with only one minor round to play before finals.

CONCORDES UNITED 7 d WANDERERS 3

The later game of the round was a 2 v 4 encounter between Concordes United and Wanderers.

Wanderers was searching for a win to keep it safe in finals contention, but with the minor premiership still in mind, United powered home for a four-run win.

Concordes United sat just one point behind Demons prior to the round and it will now all come down to the final minor round to decide the minor premiers.

Concordes started strongly and was out of the blocks quickly with a three-run first innings.

That handed them a 3-1 lead heading into the second.

The runs dried up for both sides after that, with Wanderers’ Rej Smith pitching well and Dana Jones matching her for United.

Codie Jackway provided a highlight when she had a double play at third for United.

Jones was dominant on the mound with six strike outs and she only allowed two hits for the day, to Smith and Tracey Anderson.

She also contributed with the bat, hitting a three-bagger and scoring twice for her side.

Julie Beck and Montanna Millard had three safe hits each in the middle of the Concordes’ line up.

Concordes went on to outscore Wanderers 4-2 in the later innings to run out 7-3 victors in a high-quality match.
