WEDNESDAY

IN hot, trying conditions a field of 40 women took to the Mount Gambier Golf Course for the third round of the Summer Salver.

Recording the best score for Division 1 and surviving a count-back, it was Jeannette Braun who claimed the honours.

Playing off a 21 handicap, Braun had a 48/44 split for a nett 71.

Highlights of her round were her excellent play on the long back nine, which included pars on the hard 12th hole and a par on the 18th to cement her top placing.

Runner-up for the round was Kate McCormick (24 handicap) who lost on the count-back.

She also finished with a nett 71, but her 48 off-the-stick proved to be costly.

McCormick had a split of 48/47 which included three pars, on the sixth, 17th and 18th holes.

Division 2 winner Vicki Clark (26) had the best overall score of the day with 48/48 split for a nett 70.

It was her consistent play which gave her a score of three under her handicap for the day.

Club stalwart Lorraine Stratford (26) came in second for Division 2, with a 50/50 split and nett 74.

She conquered all the pars 3’s on the course to par every one of them.

Only two players competed in the stableford competition, played in conjunction with the stroke round.

Linley Gray registered 29 points to earn herself a ball, while the ball run-down went from Hope Bliss (nett 72) down to Heather Barry (nett 77).

Some familiar names were among the speciality prize winners.

For the pro shot three balls were given to Di Norman for her shot on the par 3 eighth hole, while the second Shot on the par 3 10th hole was taken out by A Grade’s Di O’Donnell, B Grade’s Stratford and C Grade’s Jill Johnson.

This week’s competition will be the difficult par round to complete the fourth round of the Summer Salver.

SATURDAY

In sunny conditions 23 Mount Gambier Golf Club women competed in a par round on Saturday.

Good scores were the order of the day with 11 competitors playing to their handicaps or better.

Gemma Winterborn (25 handicap) recorded a solid score of four-up, with a split of three-up/one-up.

She won the round on a count-back thanks to her three-up over the last six holes on the back nine.

In second place was Leanne Hunt (12), who also had four-up.

She carded nine pars and a birdie on the par 5, 17th hole.

Faye Mainwaring (13) rounded out the podium with three-up, registering six pars and a birdie on the 18th par 4 hole.

The handicapper is sure to now have some work to do after all the impressive scores.
