Short rounds the order of the day

THERE was a change of pace for archery competition last weekend, with short, quick rounds the choice for both indoor and outdoor activities.

Those archers attending the indoor round Friday night elected to run only a single round of Australian 18-metre instead of their customary double.

One chance to take out a win seemed to spur the archers into a more competitive mindset, the adjusted scores showing a tight set of results with a tie break count-back needed to determine the winner.

Peter Donhardt was the foil for the recent front runners, a steady aim throughout the round put him in contention at the front end of the group’s scores.

Jeff Puckridge was fully focused on adding another win to his tally and found he was in a tied score with Donhardt at the end of the proceedings.

The win was awarded to Puckridge, gazumping Donhardt with a superior number of 10-point arrows scored in the round.

Outdoors on Sunday afternoon saw a short round again selected, the archers dipping into the list of 72-arrow rounds instead of the usual 90 arrow events.

An Archery Australia 40/720 and a BLA 50/720 allowed for a shorter day on the range.

Anthony Cox was keen to capitalise on his improving accuracy and succeeded in putting the usual list of front runners under pressure.

At the end of the day the scoreline showed Cox was a clear winner, outpacing Puckridge by 11 points to secure the win.

Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park on Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm Sunday.
