KINGSTON 12-135 d LUCINDALE KOALAS 12-130

On a windy day at the Lucindale country Club, a thrilling contest took place between the Koalas and Kingston in Wimbledon Round as the clash went down to the wire in the latest round of Southern Ports tennis.

Lucindale entered the fixture without its number one man Sam Graetz but Rowan Wilkin looked to fill the void in the number one position.

The Koalas looked strong early after they won four of the six mixed doubles clashes.

This included three 7-5 matches and one tiebreak in a round where most doubles contests went for an hour.

In the men’s singles, there was little to separate the two sides as both teams claimed three sets each.

An exciting battle took place between Timothy Parker and Ben Wood as the former claimed an 8-6 win in the tie-break.

The Kingston women won five of the six singles to give the visitors a handy lead late on.

With just the mixed doubles left to be played, Kingston held a slender 10-8 lead.

The Koalas then fought back to reduce the deficit and after 24 sets, both teams had claimed 12 sets each and the contest was to be decided on overall games won, with Kingston claiming a 135-130 win.

Henry Legoe, Alec Ross and Kylie Ware all won three sets for Lucindale, while Matt Menz won his three sets for Kingston.

LUCINDALE COCKATOOS 13-132 d ROBE ROOSTERS 11-118

Lucindale claimed a two-set win over the Robe Roosters in Round 13 of Southern Ports tennis.

Scores were level after the mixed doubles, and again level after the singles were completed.

The women then edged the Cockatoos ahead in the doubles after all three pairings won their sets.

Kate McGregor and Lissy Orton won 10-8 in their clash to see Lucindale over the line.

Egan Regnier put in an impressive performance and won all three sets only a week after getting married, while Fluff Legoe won all of her matches for the Cockatoos.

LUCINDALE WOMBATS 17-139 d BEACHPORT 7-98

Missing their two top men, it was always going to be a tough ask for the Beachport side.

However, despite being undermanned, the contest started evenly with the team tied 3-3 after the mixed doubles.

The Wombats men were in strong form and claimed all of the doubles clashes which put the pressure on Beachport.

The Lucindale women won three of the six singles.

Chandler Smart, Eliza Handbury, Adrian Maywald, Toby Longbottom and Tom Handbury all won three sets.

FRANCES-LUCINDALE EAGLES 18-139 d ROBE REBELS 6-76

The Eagles fought the wind to breeze past the Rebels in a convincing performance.

Kimberley Austin and Andrew Brown provided some resistance for Robe but Frances-Lucindale was too strong and flexed its strength on the way to a 12-set win.

NARACOORTE 23-159 d PENOLA 1-56

Naracoorte hosted Penola on a windy afternoon, away from the action at Lucindale.

The home side was strong from the start and comfortably claimed all six mixed doubles sets.

Naracoorte’s dominance continued in the singles as it claimed 11 of 12 sets.

Daniel Menzel, Max Malone, Stephen Biggins, Michele Moyle-Read and Alice Redding all claimed 6-0 wins in a relentless display.

For Penola, Ben Wurst fought hard to secure his team’s only set for the day against young-gun Max Lush with the final score 6-2.

Wurst teamed up with Caroline McGrath to lead the charge in the doubles for Penola but fell just short in an 8-10 loss to Albert Mann and Lush.

The Moyle-Read sisters continued their form with a 9-2 win over Shay Merrett and Kate McDonald.

Menzel and Malone and Baker and Redding also secured 9-2 wins.

Next week is the penultimate round of fixtures and Naracoorte will look to maintain its spot on top of the ladder when it takes on the Lucindale Wombats.

Frances/Lucindale will travel to Beachport, while the Roosters will host the Lucindale Koalas.

Penola will meet the Robe Rebels and Kingston will meet the Lucindale Cockatoos.
