MOUNT Gambier’s Division 2 tennis team proved why it is on top of the ladder with a resounding win over Reidy Park in Saturday’s Round 13 contest.

Played at home, Gambier was relatively untroubled throughout the day and won 11 sets to nil.

In the singles the closest set was a 6-4 win by Tyler Hannigan over Harrison Ellis.

The top men’s rubber saw Will Cameron defeat Michael Ellis 6-2, while the top women’s fixture was also won 6-3 by Taryn Gartner against Sarah Brown.

The other women’s singles won convincingly, as Jodie Carey and Jayel Van den Hurk triumphed 6-1 and 6-0 respectively.

It was another one-sided affair in the doubles and the closest set was Gartner and Carey’s meeting with Brown and Elly Bachmann.

The Gambier pair won the clash 6-4, with the next closest battle played between Lachlan Patzel and Ben Kerin with Michael and Harrison Ellis.

Despite some strongly contested games the final result was 6-3 in favour of the hosts.

At the end of the day Reidy had won just 22 games as Gambier maintained its three-win buffer on the top of the season leaderboard.

Over at Suttontown, the home team was unable to contain a visiting West Gambier outfit.

The end result was a 9-3 set victory for the red and blue, despite a few close sets.

Among those was the men’s top rubber, with Suttontown’s Brody Sharam claiming a tiebreak win over Jamie Higgins.

Another tiebreak was required in the women’s singles clash between Haylea Crowe and Kirra McKenny.

Crowe secured the win and with it another set for the hosts.

A third tiebreaker was played out in the women’s doubles, with both Crowe and McKenny fighting it out again.

This time McKenny had the edge as she partnered with Sharon Edwards to account for Crowe and Casey Sampson.

The remaining sets were won relatively convincingly, with Matthew Charlton and Higgins’ 6-4 win against Brody and Cory Sharam the next closest.

Suttontown’s third win came from Aimee Inglis in the number two women’s singles, as she defeated Gemma Ballintyne 6-2.

However, West was too strong overall and their result keeps them locked three wins clear in second place.

At the time of print no details were available for the Glencoe v Mil Lel fixture.
