Robe club celebrates Australia Day

A SUCCESSFUL day was held at the Robe Bowling Club on Australia Day for the Robe2Recovery.

A free barbecue and pie floaters greeted the players and onlookers when they arrived supplied by the R2R committee as a thank you to the Robe township and sponsors for their support.

The rinks were full with 64 players and many onlookers showing their support.

A monster raffle was drawn, with meat supplied by Ogilvies and Thomas Foods.

The winners of the bowls were Josh Waddell, David Fenton, Nox Deboo and Mick Foord, ahead of runners-up Rob Lawrie, Jodie and Alan Morrison and Dean Nankivell.

The raffle raised over $7000 and with donations from the fisherman and bowling club, it topped $8500.

The Robe women played host to Beachport for Friday’s pennant and enjoyed a good win.

Robe 58 shots 6 points defeated Beachport 40-2.

Robbie Dahler, Kerry Pedlar, Barb Brown and Tracey Gray had a close game all day but were eventually defeated by Jill Preston’s team 18-20.

Judy Phillips, Pam Robinson, Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham had a big win over Sue Young’s team 40-20, picking up an eight during the match.

The Women’s Division 2 side sit second on the ladder with two games to go before finals start.

Division 3 starts next Friday after the Christmas break.

Division 1 travelled to Penola and Division 2 travelled to Millicent for the Saturday pennant, both without success, although narrowly defeated.

Division 1 Penola 72 shots 8 points defeated Robe 71 shots 4 points.

Errol Jennings, Paul Truelove, Steve Farrell and Stephen Kennett were defeated by Peter Thompson’s team 25-21.

Josh Waddell, Peter Gregory, Peter Roachock and Glenn Wright defeated Scott Degenhardt’s team 24-25.

Pat Lynch, David Robinson, Dean Burgoyne and Harold Manton defeated Justin Robbie’s team 23-25.

Division 2 Millicent Red 68 shots 8 pts defeated Robe 61 shots 4 points.

Rob Lawrie, Mark Murphy, Ali Douglas and Adrian Bermingham defeated Peter Varcoe’s team 17-25.

Peter deLaine, Ross Dening, Jo Sykes and Ken Smith defeated Neil Whelan’s team 22-25.

Gordon Brown, Barry Bennett, Deane Nankivell and Dean Woodward were defeated by Glenn Tilley’s team 29-11.

Division 1 sits fifth on the ladder, with Division 2 fourth.
