Robe bowlers return to action

The Robe Bowling Club’s Men’s Singles Championships were played on Saturday with 16 competitors taking part.

The closest game of the first round was between Glenn Wright and Ken Smith.

Wright started strongly and led until the ninth end, where Smith equalised to make the score 9-9.

The game was a see-saw contest with the lead changing hands and with one end left to play, scores were tied at 19-19.

Smith scored a three on the final end to claim a narrow 222-19 cored a 3 on the next end to win the first round 22-19.

The other matches saw Steve Farrell defeat Paul Truelove, Harold Manton down Bill Cook, David Robinson defeat Adrian Bermingham, while Errol Jennings, Rob Lawrie and Stephen Kennett all claimed victories.

Round 2 saw Smith fall short to Kennett in another close contest, with the final score 22-18.

Robinson, Jennings and Farrell all claimed wins in their games to proceed to the semi-final.

The penultimate round of fixtures saw Farrell claim a comfortable win against Jennings, while Robinson overcame Kennett to win 21-19.

In the final, Farrell proved too good for Robinson and sealed the championship with a 25-12 win.

Social bowls has been well attended over the new year period, with Dean Burgoyne, Leanne Cameron and Jim Grayon claiming the win on December 29.

The raffle prizes went to Judy Bermingham and Marg Dolan.

On January 5, Darren Grant, Josh Waddell and Robbie Dahler were winners with 52 points ahead of Harold Manton, Pete deLaine and Nola Peel on 51 points. The raffle winners were Barb Brown and Josh Waddell.

The Robe bowling club has been busy with full fields for twilight bowls on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Open Pennants resume this Saturday with Robe playing away.

Division 1 will play at Millicent, while Division 2 will play at Kalanagadoo.

The Women’s Fours Championships and Men’s Triples Championships will be held on January 22.
