KATE HOMMELHOFF left both her playing companions and her opponents spell bound with her superb round in the recent Blue Lake Golf Club stableford event.

Playing off 32, Hommelhoff will give the handicapper some headaches as she is a much better golfer than what her handicap suggests and Saturday’s round showed that as she amassed points at will.

She picked up four three-point holes and added two points on all the other holes to end the outward nine with 22 points under her belt.

Despite opening the back nine with a wipe, the easy-going Hommelhoff then added another five three-point holes with the best being a par on the 15the hole.

She can expect the handicapper to take a strong interest in her progress throughout the year as she realises her full potential but in the meantime her win was well accepted amongst her peers.

A distant 5 points further back was the experienced Di Perryman in second with 35 points.

It was an up-and-down type of day for Perryman, as she displayed the touch of a good golfer but also threw away easy points along the way.

Her four pars on the back nine shows she definitely has the ability and when she puts it all together, another win is not far away.

A count-back was needed to decide third place with both Lynn Annand (34) and Sue Agars (22) registering 34 points.

Annand clinched the prize with her equal splits of 17 points, while Agars went one better on the front nine but one less on the back despite a run of three successive and impressive pars through the 14th to 16th holes.

Among the runners-up, Ronda Edwards impressed with her 18 points on the front nine made up of four pars but painting herself into a corner on the back nine with just 12 points.

Jo Ashby will be disappointed with her start to the year.

A much better golfer than what she displayed on Saturday, after a promising opening she was left to rue what could have been after a double wipe on the third and fourth holes.

Rosemary Martland is another who is in a run of all-or-nothing golf at the moment.

She scored just 10 points on the outward nine but had a run of three successive pars to show her good form is not far off.

Perryman picked up an extra ball prize with her nearest-to-pin on the fifth hole, while Hommelhoff also won the novelty prize with her sizzling front nine.
