Fine weather for final round

THE final game of the 2022 calendar year saw 34 women take to the fairways of the Mount Gambier Golf Club Last week for the Jeannette Braun-sponsored Ham Stableford competition.

Playing in cool and windy conditions, three players all finished on 37 points.

Playing off a 20 handicap, Denise Harvey had 20 points on the long back nine to claim first place in the count-back.

Her split for the two nines was 17/20 for 37 points, which included five pars and one wipe-out.

Second place went to Helen Gregory off a 16 handicap, with her split being 19/18 for her 37 points. Gregory played consistently and recorded four pars. With no wipes.

Rounding our the podium positions was Jess Parsons (26), who had a strong front nine of 21 points, but fell away on the back to record 16 points with one wipe-out.

Nine balls were given out to players having 36 points down to 33.

The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole was won by Sue McPherson with a close-to-the-pin shot.

The specialty prizes for the second shot on the first hole went to A Grade’s Helen McIntyre, B Grade’s Jess Parsons and C Grade’s Gail Stephenson.

The competitions will all be stableford, with club professional John Martin in charge.

Meanwhile, the weather turned it on for 18 women who competed in a stableford event on Saturday.

Registering an impressive score of 39 points off an 18 handicap, Bernie Jennings calimed the honours.

She had an exceptional 23 points on the back nine with 39 off the stick.

Trudy Johnson played one under her 33 handicap for 37 points.

She also conquered the back nine with 22 points.

A visitor from the Heywood Golf Course, Rita Handreck – 40 handicap – made short work of the course to post 36 points.
