BEACHPORT 15-116 d PENOLA 9-95

Beachport claimed a comfortable victory at Penola in Round 8 of Southern Ports tennis on Saturday.

The visitors started strongly and claimed four of the six mixed doubles clashes.

Top pair, Jake Harris and Benjamin Lang looked unstoppable and defeated Penola’s Tegan Lythgo and Daniel Hackwill 6-1.

Darcy Bateman and Emma Chambers followed suit with another 6-1 win for Beachport.

Penola’s Caroline McGrath and Josh Searle kept the hosts in the contest with a 6-2 win in the number five mixed doubles clash.

In the singles, Penola began to claw its way back into the contest.

Wins to Hackwill, Searle, Dani Russell, McGrath, and S. Crowe gave the home side some hope.

However, Beachport, led by the Lang and Bateman families, were just too good.

In the doubles, Penola hoped for a miracle come back.

McGrath and Crowe provided a glimpse of hope with a 9-2 win but it was all in vain as Beachport’s experience was enough to see it through and claim the victory.

NARACOORTE 17-135 d ROBE ROOSTERS 7-74

An undermanned Robe Roosters travelled to Naracoorte on Saturday to take on the top team.

Naracoorte showed dominance from the start of the day, with wins in five of the six mixed doubles contests.

In the singles, Naracoorte continued to show its authority and won nine of the 12 singles sets to seal the victory before the doubles were played.

Once again, Naracoorte’s women were unstoppable, as they only dropped seven games across six sets.

Michele Moyle-Read and Katelyn Baker claimed 6-0 wins, while youngster Lucy Midwinter secured a comfortable 6-2 win for Naracoorte.

For the Roosters, three-set winner, Egan Regnier defeated Sidney Malone 6-3.

Paul Rains and Max Malone battled in the match of the day, where Robe’s Rains won 6-4.

Tom Emery sealed another set for the Roosters with a 6-0 win.

The final six sets in the doubles were split even with three wins each.

Alex Clements and Hamish Stevenson overturned two singles losses to claim a 9-4 victory.

For Naracoorte, the Moyle-Read sisters continued their form as they defeated Smith and Barbara Hensel 9-0.

The other two women’s doubles also saw Naracoorte win 9-2.

LUCINDALE WOMBATS 15-127 d LUCINDALE COCKATOOS 9-110

After a disappointing couple of rounds, the Wombats returned to form with a solid victory over the Cockatoos.

The Wombats asserted their authority early winning five of the six mixed doubles against the Cockatoos.

However, the Cockatoos then rallied to take the four of the six men’s singles.

Momentum shifted again as the Wombats’ women reversed this, taking four of their singles to keep the team on track.

Eliza Handbury, Peter Lawrie and Kiele Longbottom were standout players in the singles.

Three set winners for the Wombats were Eliza Handbury, Kiele Longbottom, Caleb Johnston and Vander Maywald.

FRANCES/LUCINDALE EAGLES 15-131 d KINGSTON 9-105

It was another perfect day for tennis down by the seaside.

The Frances/Lucindale Eagles claimed a comfortable win over Kingston.

Five matches went down to the wire, with the Eagles winning three.

The match of the day was between Matthew Menz and Mark Woods.

It was a cpativiating contest between the two and Woods proved too good in the end to win 7-5.

Bianca Cunneen, Lou Leidig, Tamara Ashton and Craig Jones all won three sets for their teams.

The clash between the Robe Rebels and Lucindale Koalas was forfeited by Robe.
