Difficult day at the office for Penola

After a rain affected Round 5, nearly all Southern Ports tennis matches made it through unaffected by the weather in Round 6.

ROBE REBELS 14-129 d LUCINDALE WOMBATS 10-114

The Robe Rebels downed the Lucindale Wombats in Round 6 of Southern Ports Tennis on Saturday.

The Rebels won the opening four sets of he mixed doubles to gain the advantage early.

Momentum ebbed and flowed in the men’s singles as both sides claimed three wins each, as Adrian Maywald claimed a convincing win over Jack Nunan.

Robe took further control of he contest with four wins in the women’s singles where Jade Regnier claimed her second tie-break victory.

The Rebels went into the doubles with just two more sets needed to seal the win.

However, there were a few long games in the doubles and the Wombats fought back with wins in both top doubles 9-7.

Robe’s Jesse Robertson and Mason Keane sealed the honours for their side with a convincing 9-0 win.

KINGSTON 16-134 d ROBE ROOSTERS 8-99

After rain delayed the start between Kingston and Robe, play eventually started at around 2.30.

The mixed doubles clashes were relatively one-sided, however, there was a very long game to start the day between Paul Regnier/Alana Domaschenz and Richard Martin/Nicola Crane.

The contest went down to the wire and eventually, Regnier and Domaschenz claimed victory in a tie-break.

A great singles game took place between number one men Egan Regnier and Matt Menz.

In a high-quality contest, which included some impressive rallies and shots, Egan Regnier claimed a 6-4 win.

In the women’s singles, Lisa Hall edged out Stacey Lehmann to claim a 7-5 win, while Georgia Burns held off Katie Agnew in a tie-break.

Kingston’s number one woman Bianca went down with a knee injury not long into her match against Leanne Cameron which left the game incomplete and also resulted in a forfeit in the top women’s doubles.

The doubles saw Regnier and Steven claim a 9-5 win over Menz and Mules, while the other doubles all went the way of Kingston.

Lou Leidig, Alex Menz, Tim Parker, Georgia Burns, James Lehmann and Laura Baker all won three sets for Kingston, while Egan Regnier was the sole three-set winner for Robe.

LUCINDALE KOALAS 18-135 d PENOLA 6-82

The Lucindale Koalas flexed their strength with a dominant win over Penola on Saturday.

The encounter marked Ollie Holman’s return to the court for the first time in 10 years.

He marked his return in style as he won all three sets, while Alex Lambert and Bron Snajdar had successful debuts.

The top mixed doubles clash was a one-sided encounter as Daniel Hackwill and Sarah Lillecrapp suffered a 6-0 loss.

However, Hackwill claimed a dominant win over Sam Graetz in the top men’s singles game.

FRANCES/LUCINDALE EAGLES 5 d/w 5 NARACOORTE

Very windy conditions in Frances made the first 10 sets of tennis difficult for those on the court.

The mixed doubles were split even.

The duo of Monica Van Dyke and Bob Williams claimed a dominant win, while the Eagles’ Angus McTaggart and Tamara Ashton won their set 6-0.

However, Sidney Malone and Kelsie Moyle-Read, Stephen Biggins and Jen Malone and Logan Smith and Alix Mosey turned it around for Naracoorte.

In the top mixed doubles game, the Eagles claimed a 7-5 win and four singles games were completed before the rain came down.

Mark Woods was too good for Daniel Menzel and won 6-1.

However, the Moyle-Read sisters, fired back with 6-2 and 6-1 wins over Nikki Gluyas and Jane Fitzgerald.

Van Dyke drew the scores even when she defeated Katelyn Baker 6-1 before the rain brought the match to an end.

Elsewhere, Beachport defeated the Lucindale Cockatoos 17/139-7/104.

In Round 7, the Koalas take on the Cockatoos, while the Robe Roosters will host Frances/Lucindale.

The Rebels will travel to Beachport, Penola will face a difficult clash when it hosts the Wombats, while Naracoorte will contest Kingston in a game which could go either way.
