THE Under 16 girls’ football top-of-the-table clash did no disappoint on Friday night.

Hatherleigh hosted North Gambier and although heavily favoured to win, did so by just 10 points in the end.

The Tigers were off to a strong start and a two-goal-to-none first quarter set up a lead they would hold at every change.

They were up by one straight kick at half time, while an even third term kept it as a four-goal game heading into the final stanza.

However, the Eagles spread there wings and were able to fine tune their accuracy to double their score in the fourth and clinch a 10-point victory.

North was held to just one behind for the term, in a disappointing outcome for what it hoped would be the upset of the season.

Hatherleigh’s Sebella Coghlan was the top Eagle and was named best-on-ground for her performance, while it was no surprise to see Amber Chester and Niah Faulkner make an impact in front of goals.

The pair scored two each for the match, while North looked to an even spread between Claire Mitchell, Luca Roulstone and Winnie Zadow for their three majors.

Roulstone was a focal point for the Tigers and was named as their best, while Penny Coleman, Skye Virtanen and Eadie Mustart also impressed.

The Eagles also looked to Edie Easterby in the ruck, while Chester and Faulkner slotted into the best players as well.

KYBYBOLITE 4.1 (25) d SOUTH GAMBIER 1.5 (11)

KYBYBOLITE has claimed its second win of the 2022 Limestone Coast women’s Under 16 girls’ football season.

It came at the expense of South Gambier on Friday, with the northern Tigers piling on four goals to the Demons’ one over the four quarters.

They set up the win in the second quarter with two unanswered goals, before another in the third and the fourth quarters kept the pressure off.

South was unable to find the big sticks until Lilah Rowe snagged a goal in the third term, but by then it was too little, too late.

Chloe Stewart led the charge for Kyby with two goals, while Jessica Cox and Elise Hahn had one each.

For the Demons, Sophie Wight was again a dangerous presence on the ground and she received the best-on-ground honours for her side.

Bailey Broome, Jarrah Altschwager and Rowe were also solid despite the loss.
