NORTH GAMBIER 3.2 (20) d SOUTH GAMBIER 0.0 (0)

FRIDAY night’s Round 6 of Limestone Coast Under 16 girl’s football went as expected, with the top teams proving too strong for their opposition.

Second-placed North Gambier visited home team South Gambier, with the Demons in third on the ladder.

However, despite their positions, the Tigers held the upperhand to hold South scoreless for four quarters.

The opening term was a deadlock, as neither side touched the scoreboard, before North found the big sticks in the second.

It carried an eight-point lead into half time, which was followed by another scoreless quarter at both ends.

The game remained up for grabs heading into the final stanza, but the Tigers put their foot down to score two goals and push out to the final 20-0 victory.

An even spread in front of goals saw Georgia Gentile, Gabrielle Tilley and Winnie Zadow all convert, while it was the efforts of Eadie Mustart who impressed most.

She received the best-on-ground honours, while Heidi Berkin, Gentile and Penny Coleman were also in fine form.

Kaylee McNair and Becky Davis rounded out the best for the Tigers, in another solid team performance.

For South it was Ella Guest who received the nod from her coaching staff to be named as the Demons’ best.

She was joined by Bailey Broome, Isabella Morello, Lucy Pridham and Chelsea Lucas.

The result further increases North’s safety in second place, now with a three-win buffer to the third-placed Demons.

HATHERLEIGH 9.9 (63) d KONGORONG 2.3 (15)

THE rematch between ladder leader Hatherleigh and reigning premier Kongorong unfolded in a similar fashion to their Round 1 meeting.

The Eagles won every quarter to walk away with a commanding 48-point victory.

A couple of first-quarter majors set the scene for the victors and with two more in the second term, they held a 26-point advantage at the main break.

The trend continued after half time with two Hatherleigh goals, but this time the Hawks had an answer with two majors of their own.

However, the margin remained at 28 points heading into the final change, which left plenty of work to do for the 2021 champions.

The Eagles wasted no time in silencing any hope of a comeback and they held Kongorong scoreless for the quarter, while adding three goals to push out to the eventual 63-19 point result.

Lucy Crowe stood tall for the victors, earning herself the best-on-ground honours.

Tilly Gamble, Jeda Hibberd, Macy Burns and Bella Gysbers also impressed, while in front of goals Niah Faulkner had a day out.

The Eagles’ captain bagged four majors for the day and was joined by Amber Chester as the only other multiple goal scorer with two.

Kongorong looked to Stevie Collins, Cedar Scott and Jordy Heraper on the day, with Addison Graney and Evie Sealey the only Hawks to find the big sticks.

Hatherleigh remains undefeated at the top of the premiership table after six games, while Kongorong will be desperate for its second win of the season when it plays Kybybolite next round.
