THE Blue Lake Golf Club 2022 women’s club championships provided plenty of entertainment as Division 1 and 2 contests went down to the wire.

The weather was perfect for the 36-hole event for Division 1 and 27 holes for Division 2.

Top qualifier for Division 1 Ronda Edwards had to fight hard to win the prestigious title, meeting Dianne Perryman, who is the holder of the title of club champion many times over and the spectators were treated to a great match.

After the first nine holes the score was all square.

Perryman parred the 10th hole with the scores see-sawing until she had a par on the 16th making her 2-down crossing over to the first hole again.

Edwards knuckled down with a win on the 20th and parred the 23rd, 24th, 26th and 27th holes, turning for the last nine 5-up.

It was then Perryman’s turn to take control, winning the 28th to the 31st holes to make her 1-down, followed by a square on the 32nd, then a win for Edwards with a par on the 34th.

Perryman was not finished and parred the 35th hole to bring the score to Edwards 1-up with one to play.

The win on the 36th hole went to Edwards after she dropped the putt on the fifth stroke to finish 2-up.

The Division 2 final between top qualifier Beryl Mahoney and Kate Hommelhoff proved an epic, decided on the 28th hole in a sudden-death play-off.

It was Mahoney’s first time in a final and Hommelhoff is the current handicap champion.

Both play off similar handicaps so it was always expected to be a close battle.

After the first nine holes Mahoney was 2-up, then the scores see-sawed for the next nine with Mahoney 1-up.

The pressure was on and a win for Hommelhoff on the 19th hole made it all square.

Mahoney responded with a win on the 20th hole.

The next three holes were squared then a win for Hommelhoff on the 24th and the same for Mahoney on the 26th.

Hommelhoff claimed a win on the 27th hole to send the game into the sudden-death play-off.

Mahoney then claimed the win on the 28th hole to claim the silverware.

A interim presentation was made to both the women and men’s champions and they will be presented with their silverware at the club’s presentation night Friday, November, 18th.
