WEDNESDAY

THE Blue Lake Golf Club women made the most of the warm weather last Wednesday, when excellent scores were recorded in the stableford competition which was on offer.

Josie Ashby made a welcomed return to the winner’s circle in Division 1 to claim top spot after a three-way countback from Annette Ford and Karen Panagopoulos, who all signed for 37 points.

Ashby, off a 21 handicap, had splits of 15/22.

She found the back nine more agreeable as she achieved pars on the 12th, 14th and 15th.

Ford played off 25 and had two consistent nines of 18/19 which included one three-pointer and a par on the fourth.

Her back nine also boosted her score with pars on the 11th and 14th but an unfortunate wipe on the 17th relegated her to a minor placing.

Panagopoulos did things in reverse, with a massive 23 points on the front nine from six three-pointers which allowed her to advance to the back nine with confidence.

However, a few too many double bogeys and only one three-pointer resulted in a 15 point return.

After placing second the previous week, Division 2’s Lucy Richards scored a sizzling 40 points to narrowly edge out Lesley McPherson and Lee Anderson, both on 39.

All three used their handicaps to perfection.

Richards, off a 38 handicap, had splits of 21/19 which included three three-pointers and a four-pointer.

McPherson’s scorecard of 19/20 with six three-pointers and a four-pointer earned her second place on the countback from Anderson.

Anderson had splits of 22/17 with no less than seven three-pointers and two four-pointers but she would have rued the three wipes on her card.

Nearest-the-pin second shot winners were Ashby and Richards for their respective divisions.

Panagopoulos was the pro-shot winner, while the best back nine scores came from Ashby and McPherson, both with 20 points.

The ferret prize winners were Jenny Johnson on the second hole and Dianne Allen on the 15th.

SATURDAY WAYNE SCUTTER MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL

Once again bad weather was forecast but never eventuated until after the final groups were finished at Saturday’s Wayne Scutter Memorial Invitational women’s event.

The best overall nett score came from Fiona Punton with nett 68 and she claimed the event honours.

Her run included pars on the second, 14th, 15th and 17th.

Helen Stratford returned the second-best nett score with a 69, while Helen Myers rounded out the podium with a nett of 70.

Looking at off-the-stick scores and Stratford topped the field with 91/22 after a countback from Myers with 91/21.

Stratford also won the pro-shot, while the long drive was won by Josie Ashby.
