A FIELD of 68 South East Veterans golfers played the Mount Gambier course in perfect weather.

A highlight was Murray Telfer’s hole-in-one on the eighth hole.

The 82-year-old Telfer was having an ordinary day, with his cart breaking down on the seventh hole, then after playing the favourite 8-iron, he bent down to get his tee and missed seeing the ball go in.

His group soon let him know.

He is familiar with the course, being a member from 1962-68, Club Champion in 1967 and SE Champion in the same year.

Another player, the long-hitting left hander, Keith Couzner went out in 25 points and it looked like the magical 50 was in sight, but he had too much lunch and came home in 12.

However, it was enough to win second division by two from Bob Tonkin and Alan Webster with 35.

Steven Coe’s 39 took out first division from Rob Perryman and Stan Stroyanoff who had 38.

Nearest to pins went to Telfer and Perryman, with the ball rundown to 31.

The Ross Orchard prize went to Alan Chalk and David Seymour, in form at the moment, while Bill Mullan walked away with the Scotch.

The next meet is at Blue Lake on November 21, followed by Port MacDonnell on December 5,then closing the year out on December 12 at Millicent.
