THE weather-god continued to look after the women golfers at the Blue Lake Golf Club after all players competed on Wednesday without any rain to interrupt them until they were all off the course.

The stroke competition at the Blue Lake Golf Club was well supported despite the cold and windy conditions.

After a few days of wet weather the course has held up well and retained a reasonable amount of run on the fairways.

Karen Panagopoulos was top of the Division 1 podium, with a strong display of golf which saw her finished one stroke over her handicap.

Panagopoulos signed for 99/26/73 with two consistent nines of 50/49 which included a par on the fifth hole.

Cherryl Hill also put in a strong performance to boast a nett score of 73 (97/24) but had to settle for second place after facing a count-back with Panagopoulos.

Splits of 48/49 with pars on the fifth, 12th and 15th holes helped her see off the third place-getter Sue Agars, who managed only one par on the 14th hole in her score of 97/22/75.

Division 2’s Rose Case enjoyed another return to the winner’s circle as she carded 112/41/71 and one under her handicap.

After she scored 58 on the front nine, she reigned it in on the inward nine to record 54.

This was enough to defeat runner-up Lucy Richards, who is another regular in the placings.

Richards’ score of 117/38/79 also had two even nine’s of 58/59 with too many double-bogeys her undoing.

Women’s president Lesley McPherson was third with 112/31/81 after she found the front nine a little harder than the back with 57/55.

The nearest to the pin for the second shot on the par three second hole was won by Rosemary Martland in Division 1 and Bev Pascoe in Division 2.

Lynda Nannings claimed the pro-shot and proved to be a popular winner.

The novelty event of most accurate fairway drives winner’s were Ronda Edwards and Bev Pascoe.

Lee Anderson was happy with her two prizes for her ferret/birdie on the fifth hole.

The women’s and men’s finals of the 2022 Club Championships will be held this Sunday with afternoon tea and presentations to be held after the 36-hole events.

A stableford competition saw 11 women participate in very favourable warm conditions and the score of the day came from the young-gun Jorja Morale, who played off a 26 handicap with a sizzling 39 points and no wipes.

Her front nine score of 20 only included one par, which was on the fifth hole.

The back-nine saw four three-pointers with pars on the 14th and 15th holes to score 19 points.

Panagopoulos was not far behind with splits of 18/18, which included four three-pointers, a par on the first hole and a wipe on the fifth.

Helen Stratford claimed third place and played off a handicap of 23 with a good front nine score of 20 points.

Her front nine included two three-pointers and a four-pointer par on the sixth hole along with pars on the first and fifth.

A wipe on the 12th hole and scores of only one point each on the 13th and 16th holes were costly as she finished with 14 points on the back nine.

The best front nine score was Morale on a count-back from Stratford.
