THE Mount Gambier Lakers men return to the Icehouse on Saturday night to host the Warrnambool Seahawks in Round 6 of the Country Basketball League season.

The Lakers are yet to drop a game after three outings and would start as hot favourites against the struggling Seahawks.

But while Warrnambool is yet to win a game after four outings, three of those have been tight, including the last clash with the ladder-leading Ararat Redbacks.

The Seahawks went down to the Colac Kookas in the opening round by just six points, but were then dealt a big 83-46 loss by the Redbacks.

A four-point followed against the Horsham Hornets, before the second clash with the Redbacks which went right down to the wire.

The Seahawks led for the majority of the game, but in the final term the Redbacks enjoyed a solid run, adding 32 points to run over the top of the hosts and claim the win.

In contrast the Lakers have recorded three solid victories and come off a 115-95 win over Terang Tornadoes last weekend, with a depleted roster.

A couple of Junior Lakers helped fill the roster and with just seven players making the trip across to Terang, they came home victorious, showing the depth and talent in the side.

This weekend coach Kane deWit said he expects a near-full lineup, which spells trouble for Warrnambool on the Lakers’ home court.

While the Seahawks have pushed a few sides so far this season, they will not record their first victory on Saturday night, with the Lakers to run away with the contest.

The game tips off at 7pm SA time.
