DESPITE the continued drizzly weather, 25 women were not deterred from playing in a stableford competition at the Blue Lake Golf Club last Wednesday.

The scores reflected the degree of difficulty the moisture caused, with the best score of the day from Division 2’s Jaynee Oberer with 35 points.

Sue Agars, off 22 handicap, topped the podium for Division 1 with 33 points from splits of 16/17.

It included pars on the third, fifth and 16th holes, with only one wipe.

Agars had to wait on a three-way count-back from Dianne Perryman and Helen Myers before collecting the top voucher.

Playing off 19, Perryman had pars on the second, 12th and 15th holes and mirrored Agars splits of 16/17.

Agars was given the nod for the better score of the last six holes on the back nine.

Myers, off 21, had splits of 17/16, with pars on two of the par 3 holes, the fifth and 14th and no wipes.

In Division 2, coming off a close defeat in the semi-finals of the club championship’s the previous week, Jaynee Oberer was pleased to bounce back with 35 points to win her division’s top voucher.

She did find the front nine difficult to gather points, wiping three holes, but a three-pointer on the fifth and a four-pointer on the on the dog-leg ninth helped her to turn with 14 points, then able to score 21 on the inward nine.

Not far behind was second place-getter Shannon McDonnell, scoring 34 points from a outward nine of 18 and inward 16.

Her score included two lots of four-pointers, on the second and 14th holes, along with three wipes.

Third place went to Lyn Annand, with splits of 14/15 including a par on the par 3 16th holes and unfortunately four wipes kept the score to a minimum.

Nearest to pin second shot on the par 3 uphill second hole winners were Karen Panagopoulos in Division 1 and McDonnell in Division 2.

The pro-shot was won by Helen Myers.

Ferret prizes were awarded to Lee Anderson on the second hole, Beryl Mahoney the third, Myers the sixth, Carol Megaw the 11th and Agars on the 16th.

Tomorrow’s competition is a stableford event.

Meanwhile there was not much improvement with the weather conditions for the 15 women competing in the stroke competition on Saturday.

With the daily stroke rating of 72, winner Fiona Punton would be well pleased with 96/26/70.

After getting off to a flying start, with pars on the first, second and fifth holes in the outward nine for a score of 46, she managed 50 on the inward with a par on the 12th hole.

Second place went to Perryman (91/19/72) with pars on the second and fifth holes in her outward score of 45, then pars on the 10th, 12th and 14th.

Unfortunately the five double bogies on the back nine let her score of 46 down.

Ronda Edwards score of 86/13/73 claimed her third place after a count-back from Cherryl Hill 97/24/73.

It was testament to her consistency on the golf course of late, with seven pars and splits of 45/41.

A massive long drive on the 10th hole won Jorja Morale a ball voucher.
