Mixed results for Port MacDonnell bowlers

MID-WEEK BOWLS

NARACOORTE claimed a comfortable victory at home against Port MacDonnell Blue in the mid-week competition held last week.

The hosts finished with 50 shots and eight points and restricted Port MacDonnell to just 35 shots and no points.

Danny Gaut skippered Ben Tilley, Rod Sutton and Jennie Tilley in a close encounter which saw Naracoorte’s team skippered by Ron Garton claim a 23-19 win.

Greg Prior skippered his side to comfortably defeat Lance Fisher, Chris Negline, Mary Sutton and Terry Seiler.

It was a much better outing for Port MacDonnell Red, as it defeated Mount Gambier RSL Red with a strong performance at home.

The hosts finished with 53 shots and seven points, while Mount Gambier RSL could only manage the 48 shots and one point.

Heather Richards skippered her side, which consisted of Des Horrigan, Nallia Lucas and Bill Richards to a five-shot victory.

Meanwhile, the Graeme Smith and Robert Hutchesson’s sides could not be split in an entertaining encounter.

Hutchesson skippered Barrie Schmidt, Carol Schmidt and Keith Dowdell on the way to a 22-all draw.

WOMEN’S FRIDAY PENNANT

The Division 1 Port MacDonnell side claimed a strong victory at home against Penola.

Port MacDonnell finished with 53 shots and eight points and held Penola to just 39 shots.

Heather Richards’ impressive form as skipper continued as she led her side of Nallia Lucas, Jennie Tilley and Carol Schmidt to a four-shot victory over Christine Skeer’s Penola outfit.

Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Jan Dowdell and Judith Grosvenor claimed a 10-shot win in their rink.

Grosvenor skippered the team to a 27-17 win over the Penola side which was led by Maria Hunter.

The Division 2 Port MacDonnell team claimed an emphatic win over Lucindale on its home green.

The hosts scored eight points and ended with 61 shots, while the visitors were held to just the 28 shots.

Julie Beaman, Shirley Taylor, Lyn Vanderley, and Roma Henderson teamed up to defeat Cheryl Ferguson’s side 24-19.

The other rink saw Port MacDonnell flex its strength with a whopping 37-9 win.

Marilyn Sutton skippered Suzanne Connell, Jean Fisher and Lorraine Mackereth to victory over the side skippered by Eve Rayner.

SATURDAY OPEN PENNANTS

Mount Gambier RSL Blue was too strong for Port MacDonnell in Saturday’s Division 1 Open Pennant clash.

The visitors score just two points but ended with 64 shots, meanwhile Mount Gambier RSL scored 10 points and ended with 71 shots.

Ron Ploenges led RSL to a four-shot victory over the Tim Wrightson-skippered side which consisted of Jan Dowdell, Robert Hutchesson and Wayne Dowdell.

Rex Heins’s RSL were too good for the Port MacDonnell line-up which was skippered by Adam Wilson.

Wilson, Heather Richards, Bill Richards and Keith Dowdell finished with 16 shots but it was not enough as RSL scored 24.

Chris Richards skippered Sharon Perryman, John Broadbent and Judith Grosvenor to a five-shot win over Gary Feast’s side.

It was a different story for the Division 3 Port MacDonnell Red team as opposed to its Division 1 counterparts as it defeated Mount Gambier Red emphatically on its home surface.

The hosts scored an impressive 119 shots and 12 points and left the hosts with just 34 shots for the encounter.

Skipper Kel Butler teamed up with Bruce Bain, Dave Beaman and Donald Forbes to defeat William Duncan 38-13, while Terry Seiler, Jennie Tilley, Lance Fisher and Graham Lucas defeated David Holland by 36 shots.

Danny Gaut skippered John Naismith, Victor Perryman and Chris Negline to a comfortable 31-13 win over Glen McCalum.

Unlike Port MacDonnell Red, Port MacDonnell Blue was unable to claim victory in Division 3.

Mount Gambier Red proved too good with 105 shots and 12 points to restrict Port MacDonnell to just 32 shots.

Raymond Hutchesson’s side claimed a 35-9 win over Port MacDonnell’s Ben Tilley, Julie Beaman, Rod Sutton and Justin Brown.

Eddie Otter, Elaine Hutchesson, Darryl Sims, and Nallia Lucas loss to Diana Harris 14-27.

In the other rink, John Kentish’s side claimed a strong 43-9 win over the Marilyn Sutton-skippered side, which consisted of Jean Fisher, Graham Hutchesson and Kevin Norman.
