THE Mount Gambier Lakers men made short work of their clash with Portland Coasters on Saturday night, recording a 100-77 victory.

The Lakers travelled to Poretland for the Round 2 Country Basketball League clash and were greeted by a tough Coasters roster keen for a victory.

The opening term saw just two points separate the two side, with the Lakers ahead after a tough fight.

The second term saw the momentum swing in favour of the visitors as the Lakers began to build a lead.

By the long break the margin had increased to 11 points and the Lakers were on track.

The Coaster were not about to hang up their boots and after the break continued to fight hard, with a 30-25 quarter again favouring Mount Gambier.

That set the Lakers up for a solid victory and down the stretch they continued to rack up the points, albeit with plenty of opposition from the home side.

Kane De Wit topped the score sheets with 29 p oints to his name, while Ben Joung was impressive with 26.

Kyle Tipene (16) and Shaun Lock 9130 also reached double figures.
