Limestone Coast athletes ready for Special Olympics

THERE was plenty of excitement at the Mount Gambier RSL on Wednesday as four Limestone Coast athletes were presented with their jerseys for this year’s Special Olympics in Launceston.

The games will begin next week with over 700 athletes set to take part from across the nation in 10 sports disciplines.

The Australian National Special Olympic Games are held once every four years, which makes this opportunity all the more exciting for those involved

Amechai Bawden, Shaun Austin, Kristy Webber and Courtney Brown will represent the Limestone Coast for Team SA.

Bawden will compete in athletics, Austin and Brown will compete in soccer, which will be coached by Keith Seiler and Kristy Webber will compete in swimming.

Sergeant Jade Hill was in attendance with the Olympic Torch and Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin, was in attendance to give a speech before the athletes set off on their journey.
