A STROKE competition was held for the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last Wednesday in conjunction with the prestigious medal of medals for 2022, sponsored by life member Patricia Fallas.

Sue Agars claimed the honours and will be recognised at the presentation night next month.

Individual divisional winner’s for the stroke round saw Fiona Punton post a first-place score of 94/26/68, four strokes under the daily scratch rating of 72 and will expect to attract the notice of the handicapper for a reduction before her next outing.

Pars were recorded on the fifth, 15th and 16th holes from an outward 50 and inward 44.

Not far behind was medal winner Agars, who signed for 90/21/69 and will also see a reduction in her handicap.

With only one par on the par 4 seventh hole recorded on the outward 47 strokes, pars on the 12th, 14th and 15th were good enough to to score 43 strokes on the inward nine.

Helen Stratford followed in third place with 93/22/71, with pars on the fourth, fifth and 14th holes in the splits of 46/47.

Division 2’s winner Lucy Richards had hoped for a great day on the fairways after a birdie on the par four first hole and she was not disappointed.

Richards played consistently (107/38/69) with splits of 52/55, which included a par on the 16th hole. Jaynee Oberer came in second after carding 110/34/76 from splits of 57/53, with a par on the dog-leg par 4 15th a highlight.

Nearest to the pin second-shot winner’s on the 14th were Carol Megaw (Division 1) Jaynee Oberer (Division 2).

Helen Myers was the pro-shot winner on the fifth hole.

Birdie prizes were given to Richards on the first hole, Myers the fifth, along with ferret prizes to Lee Anderson (first), Lyn Gill (eighth), Karen Panagopoulos (ninth), Myers (third and 17th).

Meanwhile, fine weather greeted 16 women for a stableford competition on Saturday, with the fairways settling in to the spring weather and offering up lots of run.

As a result, good scores were recorded and handicaps reduced.

Dianne Perryman put in an impressive card, signing for 39 points off a 20 handicap with splits of 20/19.

She had only one wipe on the third hole but made up for it with a par on the fourth, then boosted the score with four points on the second-hardest hole on the women’s index, the eighth.

Pars were then achieved on the 12th and 18th holes, with an unfortunate double-bogey on the 17th.

Ronda Edwards came in second with 36 points off a recently-reduced handicap of 14.

She made good use of the run, with three pars and one wipe on the front nine, plus five pars and two double-bogeys on the back to finish with splits of 17/19.

playing off a 28 handicap, Beryl Mahoney also finished strongly with 35 points after a solid front nine of 19 which included a birdie for four points on the second hole, but fell away with 16 on the back.

The novelty prize for best back nine was won by Perryman on count-back from Edwards.

Wednesday will see the quarter finals of the 2022 Open Club championships with a stableford competition for non-qualifiers.
