IT was no wonder the September monthly medal winner Ronda Edwards blitzed the field last Wednesday when the weather and a well-presented course aligned at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

As a result, Edwards will join the eight other monthly medal winners to play off for the medal of medals, sponsored by life member Patricia Fallas.

Edwards has well and truly cemented herself in the winner’s circle of late and clinched the Bev Pascoe sponsored last medal for 2022 in style, with a resounding 62 nett, 79 gross off a 17 handicap – a day that does not come along very often.

Edwards has been off 14 and gained three winter strokes, but from now on will see it drop again quickly.

Her card showed six pars and a birdie from 37 strokes on the front nine, with four pars included in the 42 strokes on the back nine.

Runner-up Karen Panagopoulos would have gone close to winning on any other day with 97/27/70, playing two under her handicap.

Pars were recorded on the 16th and 17th holes for splits of 48/49.

Cherryl Hill followed with 96/25/71.

Beryl Mahoney was the outstanding winner for Division 2, also having a day on the fairways to finish with 67 nett.

There were pars on the second, fifth, 17th and 18th holes from 98 strokes off a 31 handicap. Mahoney was extra pleased as it was her first time breaking 100 since starting golf.

Runner-up Kate Hommelhoff was not far away with 106/34/72, with pars on the fourth and seventh holes and playing two consistent nines of 53/53.

Dianne Allen followed with nett 76.

Nearest to the pin second shot on the 14th hole went to Division 1’s Josie Ashby and Lee Anderson in Division 2.

Least putt winner’s were Edwards 26 and Mahoney 27 and the pro-shot winner was Dianne Perryman.

Novelty Prizes for birdies and ferrets respectively were handed to Edwards on the ninth hole, Sue Agars the 17th, Lesley McPherson the 13th and Mahoney on the 18th.

Meanwhile, a par competition greeted the 11 women who teed off in glorious sunshine on Saturday and after a long four months of travel, Annette Ford hit her stride playing square to the card and taking the first-prize voucher.

Ford signed for equal to her handicap of 23 after two down on the front nine, with pars on the first and fourth holes, plus four wipes.

She made up ground with pars on the 11th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes on the back nine, a valiant effort.

Palying off 20, Perryman went out in style with plusses on the first, second, sixth and eighth holes, plus two wipes to turn 1-up.

Unfortunately with four wipes along with two plusses on the back she finished 1-down.

Lee Anderson rounded out the podium with 2-down, although she had to survive a four-way count-back from Fiona Punton, Beryl Mahoney and Cherryl Hill.
