THE purchase back in June 2021 by Cadillac Racing’s Kerry Hawker and Cap Abbott of performed greyhounds One Tonne and Gold Rocks was just the start of it all.

By Matt’s Entity, the littermates are out of 650-metre Shepparton winner Pamela Rocks, a daughter of Barcia Bale and Punk Rock Lass – herself a half-sister to Rhonda Rocks, the dam of Group 1 winner Sennachie.

The Edenhope-based pair then purchased three pups out of Pamela Rocks’ second litter – by Fernando Bale – that had been whelped at Bendigo in April 2021.

But, according to Hawker, in the end it was an all-or-nothing situation.

“Not only did we eventually finish up with the complete litter of seven but also with Pamela Rocks herself,” Hawker said.

“For her third litter we opted to use the Irish sire Premier Fantasy which resulted in three dogs and five bitches being whelped in February this year.”

On September 18, five of the Fernando Bale litter lined up in the six-dog Gambier Vets Maiden Stake (305 metres) at Tara Raceway with Cadillac Star defeating Cadillac Lloyd by 4½ lengths in a tidy 17.93 seconds.

Cadillac Racing has done pretty well at Mount Gambier this year.

Abbott has trained 27 winners and Hawker has snuck into the top 10 with 17 winners.
