THE Mid South Eastern Football League will honour the standout players of the competition for season 2022 on Sunday at the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre.

The Mail Medal for best and fairest will be the focus, along with the various other senior awards.

The goal kicking honours have been tied up by Kalangadoo’s Michael Krieger, who took 15 games to notch up 84 goals.

His Magpies are well on the way to claiming a premiership but they were also the hot favourites last year, only to stumble at the final hurdle.

Many players are in the running for the Mail Medal honours in a season where all areas of the ground produced standout performances.

Reigning premiers Port MacDonnell produced such front runners as Tim Sullivan and Will MacDonald, who would both be sure to poll many votes.

Top-of-the-table Kalangadoo would likely have players stealing votes from each other, after such a strong year.

The likes of Patrick Davies, Andrew Stone and Lachy Jones made regular appearances in the club awards and were always influential in the Magpies’ success.

The second-placed Hatherleigh is another side where regular performances came across the board.

Big man Mark Marriott was a main-stay in the list of best players, along with Michael Telford and Darcy Bateman.

However, again players will be stealing votes from each other after such a strong season.

The top two clubs will likely produce the winner but it is certainly not a foregone conclusion.

Hamish Smith enjoyed a productive year up forward for Mount Burr, while Sam Wallis is always a solid performer.

Clubs such as Glencoe produced a strong back end of the year, while Robe was in contention for much of the season and could well take a few votes along the way.

Due to Covid, many players missed games which could well come into play as the count winds down, along with a few injuries.

In the end it should be an intriguing count, with Marriott and MacDonald possible favourites to claim the season honours.

The day will be run in conjunction with the netball awards and kick off at 2pm, following the junior presentations from 10.30am.
