A CHILLY morning greeted the women last week at the Blue Lake Golf Club for the fifth and final round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial stableford trophy proudly by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro.

A two-way count-back ensued in Division 1 between Ronda Edwards and Helen Myers after both signed for 35 points, with the former getting the nod after a better back-nine score.

Edwards, off 17, had splits of 19/16 which included five pars, three on the outward nine and no wipes on her card overall.

Myers, off 20 and back from a Darwin holiday, was not troubled by the change in temperature and scored 20 points on the outward nine, plus 15 points on the inward holes.

A par on the fifth hole and no wipes overall secured the runner’s-up voucher.

Dianne Perryman, off 21, followed with 34 points, 16 on the outward nine and a respectable 18 heading home, with pars on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes.

Playing off a 30 handicap, Beryl Mahoney backed up the previous week’s win in Division 2 with 28 points to take top spot on the podium.

Making good use of her handicap on the holes getting extra strokes, but a little bit too much red ink on others, Mahoney finished with splits of 14/14 and recorded no wipes on her card.

Often in the winner’s circle, Dianne Allen also backed up her win the previous week with 25 points to take the runner’s-up voucher.

It was a bit of a struggle, with a few wipes but she was able to hold off the rest of the field.

Nearest the pin second shot on the 16th hole went to Division 1’s Edwards and Division 2’s Bev Pascoe.

Rosemary Martland had a chip-in ferret on the par 3 second hole.

On Saturday a stableford competition resulted in Edwards surviving a count-back from Helen Stratford after both signed for 32 points.

Playing off 16, Edwards had splits of 11/21.

The highlight on the front nine was her playing partners watching her tee shot rolling towards the pin on the par 3 hole, looking good for a hole in one but resulted in an easy tap-in birdie.

On the back nine the pars were aplenty on the 11th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes.

Off 22, Stratford was only able to produce one par on the 14th hole, with splits of 15/17.

third place went to 25-handicapper Cheryl Hill, who finished with 25 points and the best front nine novelty award.

Nearest the pin winner was Edwards.
