Port MacDonnell lost its home-ground advantage for Round 16 of Mid South East netball, instead heading to Tantanoola for a tough contest.

The Demons went into the game without reliable defender Belinda O’Dine, so were forced to shuffle their lineup around slightly and send shooter Kirby Carrison to goal keeper.

The first quarter started evenly and was fast paced, with all goalies taking time to settle.

Tantanoola’s Emma Gould was able to rebound most of her missed shots and get a second chance.

Liza Mutch was impressive early in the centre for the Demons and kept Tiger Madi Kelly on her toes.

Narelle Lewis was also dominant for the Demons on the attacking wing, driving into space with patience around the ring.

The Tigers went to the first break with a four-goal advantage.

The start of the second quarter saw Toni Gilmore find her range in the Demons’ goal circle, missing just one for the quarter.

Gould was dominant at the other end of the court, despite Carrison’s best efforts, while Demon defender Alana Winter was able to keep Tiger Jami Walker relatively under control in the circle.

The Tigers defence line of Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe started to find some form and got their hands to a lot of ball late in the quarter.

The Tigers only won the quarter by two goals but extended their lead to six at the main break.

Port Mac brought 17 and Under player Lara Wilson into goal attack, while Williams had a break.

Wilson took no time to settle, shooting nine goals for the quarter, while Rowe kept Gilmore to just two.

Gould had a brilliant third quarter, shooting 14 goals with few misses.

Casey Walker was impressive around the circle, feeding her goalies with pinpoint accuracy.

As a result Tantanoola created some much-needed space and took an 11-goal advantage to the final break.

Gould missed a few goals for the term as the Demons claimed the quarter but it was not enough to close the gap and the Tigers claimed a well-deserved eight-goal victory.

Casey Walker and Rowe were best for Tantanoola, while Mutch and Lewis claimed the honours for the Demons.
