THE Casterton Sandford Football and Netball Club will hold a special general committee meeting this Sunday to vote towards a movement to apply for a change of leagues.

If passed, the motion would see the club apply to leave the Western Border Football League in an attempt to join the Mid South Eastern Football League.

An information night was held at the club last week, which was open to all members of the public and provided a chance for any questions to be answered.

Casterton Sandford A Grade football coach Kane Forbes said the meeting was well received.

“I reckon there were about 25 (watching) online and another 60 or 70 in the room,” he told The Border Watch.

“It was a good turnout and from all reports, I think the session itself went really well.

“Talking to Dylan (Ayton) and the executive group after the meeting, there were no questions that had not been considered by the executive already.”

The motion was put forward due to the difficulties faced by the current netball and junior football formats within the WBFL, along with the monotony of playing the same teams three to four times a year.

Forbes said he was excited by the proposal, but was aware there remained several hoops to jump through even if Sunday’s vote was successful.

“As a playing group and a coaching group we are really excited for the challenge that will hopefully eventuate,” he said.

“Obviously some things are out of our control, but if it happens we are really excited to see a different competition.”

Sunday’s vote will take place at 11am behind closed doors at the Casterton Sandford social club, with only members invited to attend.
