Collins wins at Blue Lake

RUNNER-UP: Bryan Scott was runner-up in A Grade in Saturday's round at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

NICK COLLINS claimed the win in Saturday’s Monthly Medal stroke round at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

A strong field of golfers took part despite the cold weather.

The course was in excellent condition for the round and greenskeeper Daniel Christian, was praised for the state of the course.

Collins returned a net score of 68 and was the only competitor to achieve a sub-par round.

His round got off to a shaky start, as he opened with a string of bogeys, before a double-bogey on the difficult fourth hole.

However, a birdie on the sixth hole kickstarted his round and had a score of 40 at the end of the front nine.

Collins recorded another birdie on the 17th hole on his way to a score of 36, on the back nine and a two-shot win.

Kieran Ashby was the winner in A Grade, with a nett score of 70.

Ashby battled inconsistency throughout the day with a mix of bogeys, pars and a double-bogey on each nine.

The highlight of the round came on the 17th hole, where he scored a birdie.

Bryan Scott was the runner-up in A Grade, with a net score of 73.

Scott started slowly with a front nine of 46, which included three double bogeys.

However, he fought back on the inward nine, with a score of 39, which included a birdie on the 14th hole.

Scott’s birdie on the 14th meant he claimed second place ahead of Marc Dalton on a count-back.

Dalton also struggled on the front nine but scored an impressive 35 on the back nine to claim third place.

Roger Gale claimed the B Grade victory, with a net score of 71.

It was a consistent performance from Gale as he finished strongly with three pars on the final four holes.

Tom Drenthen was inconsistent early in the round but managed a par on the third hole.

However, he improved on the back nine, which included a birdie on the 15th hole to finish with a net score of 72 and claim second place in B Grade.

Dudley Tanton rounded out the top three with a net score of 73.

Joe Pritchard overcame a sluggish start to clinch C Grade with a net score of 72.

Pritchard recorded pars on the 15th and 17th holes in an impressive performance.

Cory Davis shaved a remarkable 10 strokes of his front nine, with splits of 52 and 42.

Davis finished strongly on the back nine with pars and a birdie on the 14th as he claimed second place.

Jim Ferrazzola filled the placings with a net score of 77.

The Ball rundown winners were Gavin Coon, Trevor Little, Michael Watts, Wayne Dunford, Barry Humphries, Zeick Dalton, Michael Johnstone, Robert Martland, Matt Roscow, Bobby White, Neal Doody and Matthew Noonan.

Davis and Zeick Dalton picked up the pro-shot prizes, while Scott picked up the nearest to pin for A Grade on the 14th hole.

It was another difficult round for players on Tuesday but Michael Dawe battled through to claim the win.

Dawe was impressive early with two consecutive pars, followed by a birdie on the third hole.

However, he was unable to keep his momentum rolling as he picked up a double-bogey on the eighth hole.

Dawe scored 41 on the front nine and was one shot under his handicap but the cold and damp conditions took their toll with three double-bogeys on the back nine.

Despite his less than ideal finish, Dawe still recorded an impressive net score of 70.

Milton Bignell claimed second place with an strong performance.

His par on the ninth hole kickstarted his round and picked up three more pars on the inward nine to return a net score of 71.

Those three pars were crucial after he tied with Vic Smith and Colin Ferguson and defeated the pair on a count-back.

Smith claimed the final podium place ahead of Ferguson, who was on fire on the front nine with a score of 36.
