SOUTH GAMBIER v WEST GAMBIER

IF there is a game where West Gambier might have an edge on ladder leader South Gambier it will be tomorrow at Blue Lake Sports Park.

While the Demons’ depth is immense, the loss of coach and full forward Brayden Kain and star defender Todd Reid due to state commitments will cause some reshuffling for the home team.

On the other hand, West comes off a hard-earned win over the Bulldogs, who once again put up a fight not reflected by their bottom placing.

Coach Daron McElroy was a standout and his work both in the ruck and in the forward line earned him the Phil Muhovics medal in the annual Call to Arms Cup clash between the sides.

McElroy will be one to watch again and South ruckman Mason Hein will want to carry his Round 14 form into the clash.

Kain’s absence leaves a hole in the forward line for the Demons, but if last week is anything to go by, his shoes could be filled by a young talent.

Mitchell Sims slotted six majors in a standout performance.

Brodie Foster was a late out last round, but if he returns tomorrow, he and Sims should keep the scoreboard ticking over.

However, they will meet heavy resistance from the Roos’ back six, which has been a highlight for the side this season.

Lewis Lean comes off a best-on-ground performance, while the likes of Todd McPartlan and Jesse Pfitzner are all rock solid.

Up the other end West will look to Ben Papps and Jordan Williams again, while McElroy can be expected to snag a couple of goals if the opportunity presents itself.

The Demons may still hold an edge based off track record, but West will be hungry for an upset with finals just around the corner.
