TOUGH ROUND LOOMS: Patrick Davies looks to break a tackle during the Round 5 encounter between Mount Burr and Kalangadoo.

An exciting contest awaits this Saturday when Kalangadoo hosts Mount Burr in Round 14 of Mid South Eastern football.

The Magpies remain the benchmark of the competition as they occupy top spot on the ladder with 10 wins from 11 games.

Mount Burr will head into this game confident it can cause an upset and shake up the race for finals as the competition heats up.

After a slow start to the season, where the Mozzies won just one game in their first five fixtures, Mount Burr has transformed into the in-form side of the competition.

The Mozzies have won their last seven games, which included an impressive win over the second-placed Hatherleigh and have not lost since Round 5, where they played Kalangadoo.

The Magpies were far too strong for Mount Burr when these two sides last faced and claimed an emphatic 119-point win.

Kalangadoo will take to the field for the first time in three weeks, after a bye Round 13, followed by the competition-wide week off for the SA Country Championships.

The Mozzies will need to start strongly and expose any cobwebs that may be present if they are to have a chance against the top-side in the league.

Sam Wallis will look to continue his strong form for the Mozzies which has earnt him places in the Mid South East Interleague and South East Zone sides.

Kalangadoo will need to restrict the impact of Hamish Smith, who has 40 goals in 12 games this season.

Meanwhile, Mount Burr will have its work cut out as the Magpies have a host of star players in their line-up.

Sam and Tye McManus have been in scintillating form for Kalangadoo while Michael Krieger has been near-unstoppable in the forward line this season and has kicked 55 majors in 10 games.

The depth for Kalangadoo is almost endless as Patrick Davies and Lachy Jones have been forces to be reckoned with.

Despite the strong form of the Mozzies which has left them undefeated for over two months, the Magpies’ vast array of talent will prove too much and will claim their 11th win of the season.
