Robin Hood arrow achieved

ROBIN HOOD ARROW: Garry Jacques was the victim of his own accuracy with this rare Robin Hood arrow during Sunday's indoor archery round. Picture: SUBMITTED.

A RARE Robin Hood arrow was achieved during the Blue Lake Archers indoor archery contest.

Sunday afternoon’s scheduled outdoor event was deferred to the comfort of the indoor venue and a pair of 18-metre rounds sufficed to challenge the archers.

The scores were good in the first round as archers warmed up their accuracy.

Ben Kilsby put in a dominant performance and claimed the best score off the bow.

This was also enough for him to claim the handicap adjusted win in Round 1 and led Peter Donhardt by four points.

Now fully warmed up, the archers returned to the shooting line for Round 2, where the improved accuracy shook up the order.

The highlight of the afternoon unfolded in the very first end of the second round when Garry Jacques nailed a rare Robin Hood arrow.

One of his arrows was shot on a collision-course with a previous arrow he had shot and the arrow he shot found itself lodged into to the back of the other arrow.

The expense of replacing the destroyed arrow was deemed irrelevant as the archers celebrated the rarity of the achievement.

In these uncommon cases, the arrows score whatever the first arrow had scored, so Jacques scored nine points for both arrows.

After the celebration of the occasion finished, Tamika Mullan and Jacques made the big moves as Mullan set a new personal best.

Mullan went on to claim the win in adjusted scores.

Indoor archery will resume at Malseed Park on Friday night at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park at 12.30pm on Sunday.
