Both teams fired out of the blocks in the Round 13 clash between the Hawks and the Saints.

The young Hawks side played some smart netball early, as they utilised Tilah Buckingham’s height and lobbed numerous balls into her.

Shannon Higgins and Carly Ploenges worked tirelessly to try and stop the lobs.

However, Buckingham’s height made it too easy for Kate Wright and Tori McIntyre to pass the ball into her.

Nangwarry were able to compose themselves with patient passing from Kylie Heaver and Hayley Burner, while Ange Pratt and Tahlia Wilson were able to get some goals on the board.

At quarter time Kongorong led by eight goals.

Changes were made by Nangwarry to start the second quarter as it tried to stop the easy passing flow to Buckingham.

Bruner went to goalkeeper, Higgins went to goal defence and Ebony Lawson moved to centre.

This change made a huge difference for Nangwarry as the second quarter was evenly matched.

Kongorong’s defenders Riley Buckingham and Sarah Lucas, worked hard to stop the run of Pratt and Wilson.

Riley Buckingham made some handy intercepts down the court to help her team stay in front.

Burner and Ploenges worked hard on Tilah Buckingham as they double-teamed her and forced Ella McIntyre to step up for her team.

The Saints were able to claw their their way back into the game with some impressive intercepts from Burner, while Lawson and Heaver drove down the court effectively.

Unfortunately a season-ending ankle injury to Tahlia Wilson, meant Cassie Dinnison entered the court for her second game for the day.

The Hawks came out firing in the second half with an early intercept from Sarah Lucas and some patient passing from Tori McIntyre and Kate Wright.

Dinnison and Pratt stepped it up for their team as they worked the ball around the circle well and scored all opportunities given to them.

Kylie Heaver had a great battle with Emily Lightbody but showed her experience as she worked the ball around patiently.

Ella McIntyre ran well and became a focal point in the circle for the Hawks as she scored with accuracy and helped them extend their lead.

Kongorong led by 10 goals at the final change and did not look back.

The Hawks came out strong as they turned over Nangwarry’s first centre pass.

Tilah Buckingham started came out of the circle more and forced the Saints defenders to play one-on-one.

Nangwarry’s goalies found it difficult to get the ball into their goal third with any opportunities picked off by Lucas or Riley Buckingham.

Kongorong’s mid-court ran the game out well and created space as the Hawks ran out 17-goal victors.

Heaver and Pratt were the best on court for the Saints, while Lucas and McIntyre were the best players for Kongorong.
