IT was an absolute must-win clash for South Gambier on Saturday and after three tight quarter, the Demons claimed their second win from three outings against North Gambier this year.

South now sits level with wins on wins with the Tigers, but remains in fifth position on percentage, keeping its finals hopes alive.

It was all about scoring in the opening quarter, which concluded at 19-all, with both shooting duos on song.

At half time North had a one-goal advantage, before it extended the margin to three at the final change.

However, whatever stand-in coach Felicity Walker said at three-quarter time worked for the young Demons and they dominated the final quarter to secure a seven-goal victory.

That dominance was built on a vastly-improved defensive effort from South.

Ellie Bouchier and Grace Edwards denied Caroline Wakefield and Macey Griffith time and space, while they also created plenty of turnover ball.

Lara Munro was also impressive in the fourth and the goal shooter converted 15 straight to ensure the Demons’ dominance was reflected on the scoreboard.

The Tigers were without first-choice defensive duo Mel Renko and Zahra Crough, but it was only in the final quarter the teenage combination of Elyse Willoughby and Lauran Norman were unable to limit South’s scoring.

The match up between North’s Brianna Walters and South’s Megan Reid in the mid court was one of the best on the day.

Bouchier was critical for the Demons, especially in the final quarter, while Munro’s accurate finishing was also a key to the win.
