THE Australian Indoor Archery Championships were run on the weekend at multiple venues across the country.

The overall scores achieved in the competition are used to determine the National and Individual State Championships.

The Blue Lake Archers ran as a venue in 2016 and 2017 and the indoor venue was once again used for this year’s competition.

Seven archers from the region entered in the event which was governed by Archery Australian organisers to ensure fair competition for all 645 archers across the country, regardless of the venue.

The overall championship comprised of two rounds, which started with a double round of Australian 18-metre Indoor, before a World Archery 18-metre round after the lunch break.

Both rounds had 60 arrows each and the scores were combined for an overall result.

At the Mount Gambier venue, the seven archers which competed were split in the Open Male and Female, Male 50+, Male 60+ and Male 70+ competitions.

Blue Lake’s Tamika Mullan and Peter Donhardt competed in their first championships, while Ben Kilsby, Paul Freeman, Garry Jacques, Ian Harris and Jeff Puckridge had all competed at this level previously.

There were three podium finishes recorded at state level, after Mullan and Harris both picked up silver medals in their divisions, while Puckridge claimed the bronze medal in his division.

Club archery will return on Friday night at 7pm at Malseed Park and Corriedale Park will host the outdoor competition on Sunday at 12.30pm.
