On their home court, Glencoe took on an undermanned Nangwarry side and made short work of the contest in Round 12 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

The Saints immediately turned over the first centre pass of the match through an intercept from Ebony Lawson, but were unable to convert.

The Glencoe defenders came out with real intent, not allowing Nangwarry any easy transition into the attacking circle.

The pressure resulted in the Murphies being out by four goals before the Saints found their first scoring opportunity.

Despite high defensive pressure applied all over the court, the first quarter was played at a slower pace with both attacking ends fielding new goalie combinations.

A high defensive work rate from Chloe Pfitzner and Sarah Edwards kept the Saints to only three goals for the quarter, while Glencoe converted 16.

The Saints swapped Cassie Dinnison into goal attack and Demi Hoffmeister into goal keeper following the first break.

Despite Glencoe scoring the first three goals of the quarter through a centre pass intercept from Edwards, the positional swap worked wonders for the Nangwarry side.

Kylie Heaver took control of the Nangwarry attack line and began to find the circle edge with ease, while the familiarity between Dinnison and Tahlia Wilson opened up plenty of space and scoring opportunities for the Saints.

The Murphies’ goalie combination of Chantelle Cocks and Malinda Markiewicz began to find better connection also, while Donna Jaeschke ran hard through the middle, with her long court drives a vital link between the defensive and attacking lines, despite the close attention from Lawson.

In a much tighter second quarter, the Murphies went into the main break with a 22 goal advantage.

Cocks lifted her work rate in the second half, utilising the space to front cut into the circle at every opportunity.

Glencoe’s Ashlea Edwards and Nangwarry’s Taysha Marshall had a good battle on the wing, with both girls contesting hard for every ball.

The move of Pfitzner onto the wing for the Murphies worked to limit the hard drives of Heaver.

However, Wilson continued to find space on the baseline and finish accurately for the Saints.

The defensive pressure continued to come from Glencoe, which forced the Saints into some held balls and the Murphies held a 62-28 lead heading to the final break.

Saints youngster Kaitlin Roisetter came on at wing defence for the final quarter, while Glencoe came out with a lifted intensity with multiple options available over the court.

Markiewicz and Cocks continued to find the post and shoot with accuracy, while at the other end the long arms of Thompson came into play, with any missed shots from the Saints rebounded strongly.

Despite the best efforts of the Saints, the Murphies continued to put the foot down and run home with a huge 26-goal final quarter and a big win.

Best players for Glencoe were Pfitzner and Cocks, with Dinnison and Lawson best for Nangwarry.
