Round 12 of Mid South East netball saw Mount Burr claim a comfortable win over Kongorong.

The Mozzies were off to a strong start with the first couple goals unanswered.

Heidi Clark was on from the first whistle, working hard with the drive and feeding with accuracy to the Mozzies’ goalies Sarah Nulty and Ebony Clark who were both accurate under the post, together adding 19 goals for the quarter.

At the other end of the court, the new-look combo of Evie Sealey and Ella McIntyre – in the absence of playing coach Tilah Buckingham – struggled to adjust, with the Mozzies able to make the most of any errors or loose balls.

With the Hawks looking nervous and slightly unsettled, the Mozzies were able to capitalise and take a 14-goal lead to the first break.

The second quarter saw the defensive line-ups for both teams lift.

Nulty for the Mozzies and Riley Buckingham for the Hawks battled hard in the circle, both influential for their respective sides.

The Hawks settled in the second quarter, with Sealey and McIntyre able to look after the ball with some accurate feeding from Kate Wright and Rach Perry and reward their side.

Buckingham and Sarah Lucas worked hard in defence for the Hawks, making the Mozzies play possession netball and work the ball around.

However, Laura Schultz and Heidi Clark turned it up another gear, where their experience showed and the Mozzies were able to push their lead out a further five goals at half time.

The Hawks made some changes at the break, with Emily Lightbody into goal keeper to add some height in the circle, plus the fresh legs of Lynley Page at wing defence.

Lightbody’s height proved crucial, while Buckingham lifted her work rate and started to see some reward from her pressure.

At the other end the Mozzies defenders also found their groove, with Madi Haggett and Olivia Dean finding hands all over the court and capitalising on any missed shots.

Ebony Clark shot 11 of Mount Burr’s 15 goals for the term, leading the Mozzies to outscore the Hawks 15-7 as they worked the ball down the court fast and with accuracy.

Both teams continued to fight hard defensively to run out the game.

Despite the young Hawks’ improving game and attempts to limit the damage on the scoreboard, Mount Burr was able run away with the game.

Best players for Mount Burr were Heidi Clark and Nulty, with Lightbody and Perry best for Kongorong.
