ROUND 3 of the National Superstock 1000 Championship in England was not kind to Levi Day.

The former Mount Gambier rider enjoys the fast, flowing Donington Park circuit but a crash in the opening race set his weekend back somewhat.

He made up for that with a top-10 finish in the second race but had to battle hard to keep a reasonable pace.

Due to budget limitations, Day had not ridden the circuit since last year and was thrown straight into practice on the Friday.

A setup was chosen and a best lap time of 1:08.1 was set, which all looked good for Saturday’s qualifying runs.

However, the pace was hot in qualifying, with one rider going half a second under the lap record.

Day’s time of 1:07.7 was enough for 14th place on the grid for the opening race, which began at break-neck pace.

Day was embroiled in a big battle, with riders from seventh to 18th position looking to make a break.

A red flag came out on lap 11, with a restart seeing just eight laps to run.

Day was off to a good start but lost a few positions on the opening lap.

With just two laps remaining another rider ran wide and the pair made contact, with Day crashing out.

Day then looked to the following race on the Sunday, where he started out of eighth position.

He soon moved up to seventh place but a crash on the opening lap saw a safety car deployed, with Day then in sixth.

A couple of errors mid-race saw Day finish in 10th place, with an impressive fastest lap time of 1:07.5, just outside the new lap record of 1:07.1.

The series now has a break until they return to Knockhill in Scotland from June 17 to 19.
