West Gambier v Millicent

Last time Millicent played at Malseed Park the club won an A Grade football premiership.

Now the Saints return to the venue for Round 8 of the 2022 Western Border football season for a meeting with West Gambier.

Another win will be on the cards as Millicent has not lost a game since the opening round against South.

However, a close call against Casterton Sandford last week was a shock to the system and there remained plenty of work to do on the training track this week.

The Roos suffered a disheartening loss to North last round but were impressive against Casterton the previous week.

They will take confidence from that solid victory heading into their clash with the Saints, who held on for a slim four-point win over the Cats on Saturday.

Jacob Carger was a standout for Millicent and found some of his explosive form from early rounds against the Cats.

He was dangerous around the ground and led the way with three goals.

The Saints will hope for the return of Kalan Shanks, Kynan Dunn, Eli Redman and Kobe Gibson who were absent due to Adelaide commitments.

The young brigade have shown talent and composure beyond its years at Millicent and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Josh Werchon and Kade Varcoe have been prime examples of that with solid starts to the year, while Zac McGuinness has also been solid.

West has its own young talent, with Tom Nieuwerkerk coming off his third best-on-ground performance of the season.

Mitchell Cornolo and Reece Cowling were also in fine form against North and will look to carry momentum into this week.

Lawry Bradley-Brown has started to find his best again after a disrupted start to the season, while Michael Minuzzo and Jordan Williams have been equally as impressive.

If West can bring its best to the park it could be a competitive game but the Saints are unlikely to let their guard slip two weeks in a row.
