A LONG course setup greeted competitors in the Mount Gambier Golf Club’s women’s quarter-finals of the club championships last week.

The A and B Grade competitions were conducted in good conditions, with a touch of wind, fast greens and fairways well grassed.

Four matches were contested in A Grade, with Kerry Pedlar winning against Denise Harvey 3/2, Jennifer Van Ritjhoven defeating Jan Shanahan 7/6, Bernie Jennings won 4/2 against Carol Davis and Faye Mainwaring was the victor against her sister, Helen Gregory 3/1.

In the B Grade, Rab Headlam defeated Janina Morrison 2/1, Jeannette Braun 5/3 over Chris Galpin, Di O’Donnell in a tight tussle defeated Heather Teakle 2-up and Helen McIntyre registered a win over Kathy Ewer 5/4.

The draw for the A Grade semi-finals will see Pedlar face Van Ritjhoven and Mainwaring up against Jennings.

The B Grade draw sees Headlam take on Braun and O’Donnell against McIntyre.

Played in conjunction with the quarter-finals, 27 women competed in a stableford event.

Playing off a 23 handicap, Kate McCormick claimed Division 1 with 32 points, which included a birdie on the 18th hole.

Vicki Clark (26) finished runner-up on a count-back, also with 32 points.

She picked up four points on the first hole with a birdie, plus three pars and five wipe-outs.

Despite the long course lay-out, newcomer Linda Boylan (45) played to her handicap and claimed the honours for Division 2 with the best score of the day of 36 points.

She had 21 points on the front nine, including four three-pointers.

Another relatively new face to the club, Jess Parsons plays off 29 and finished runner-up with 33 points, with five three-pointers on her card.

Four balls were given out in the run-down and went to Liz Clements, Sue Downes, Lorraine Stratford and Maureen Sims.

Libby Furner claimed three balls for the pro shot, while the best back nine went to Lorraine Stratford in A Grade, Kate McCormick in B Grade and Jess Parsons in C Grade.

Mother Nature showed up on the Attamurra course on Saturday, with heavy, windy conditions greeting the 20 competitors.

A two-person aggregate stableford was made more difficult with a tough course set-up and the wind, which affected the players putting.

The pairing of Kerry Pedlar and Helen Gregory claimed the win with a combined score of 63 points, ahead of Denise Harvey and Karen Forster on 59.

Marie Douglas and Di O’Donnell rounded out the placings with 58 points.
