The Mid South East netball Round 4 match of the round between Glencoe and Robe lived up to expectations, with a hard-fought, tightly contested contest going down to the final whistle.

Robe claimed the honours, but by just two goals in a cracking contest.

The first quarter was played at a high-intensity and a frenetic pace, with both teams creating strong attacking play.

Sarah Laurie was the focal point for Robe in their goal circle, creating plenty of space and finishing strongly with 11 goals from 13 for the quarter.

At the other end, Glencoe goal shooter Malinda Markiewicz created space and netted 10 from 11.

It was Glencoe who got the early break, turning over Robe’s first centre pass through a strong Sarah Edwards intercept.

Glencoe’s Chantelle Cocks left the court only a few minutes in with injury and was replaced by A Reserve player Bec Edwards.

Glencoe took a one-goal advantage into the first break.

Robe came out firing in the second quarter, bringing Alannah Jennings into the match at goal keeper to help reduce Markiewicz’s influence

Lucy Perkins and Annie Hunter increased their defensive pressure in the goal third, making it hard for Laura Edwards and Donna Jaeschke to find the circle edge.

Tori Gluyas started to come into the game, using her trademark long-range shooting accuracy to score 11 from 12 for the quarter.

Robe went into the long break with a four-goal advantage.

The Roosters made a number of changes at the long break, with Perkins switching into wing attack and Ellen Ramke returning to the game at wing defence.

However, it was Glencoe who came out strongly, scoring the first five goals of the quarter off the back of intercepts and strong rebounding from Sarah Edwards.

Jaeschke provided plenty of run and created lots of play, while Jenna Paproth moved well in the goal circle and used her front drives to advantage, then finished with accuracy.

Perkins stepped it up early in the third and was the main play-maker for Robe, driving strongly to ensure the score did not blow out and Ramke also gained a number of important touches.

Scores were all tied up at 40 a-piece going into the final quarter to set up an entertaining finish to the contest.

Halle Carter took the goal attack bib for Robe, allowing Gluyas to move to goal shooter, while Laurie headed to the bench.

The Robe defenders were able to get their hands to a number of balls in and around the Glencoe goal circle and send the ball down to Gluyas, who made good space to net nine goals for the term at 100 per cent accuracy.

Perkins continued to dominate the attacking end but Glencoe refused to go away, turning the ball back on numerous occasions.

However, the supply was near continuous from the Robe defenders and they managed to hold on by two goals at the final whistle.

Best players for Robe were Ramke and Jennings, while Paproth and Markiewicz were best for Glencoe.
