Kalangadoo hosted Port MacDonnell in Round 3 of Mid South East netblal, with the home side too strong on the day.

In sunny conditions, Port MacDonnell started the match strong, with the defensive combination of Alana Winter and Megan Hein causing some early turnovers, to help the Demons score the first three unanswered goals.

However, the Magpies stepped up their intensity, quickly settled into the match and went to the first break with a four-goal advantage.

Both teams remained unchanged during the second quarter.

Centre Liza Mutch worked hard for Port MacDonnell, feeding her goalies Kirby Carrison and Brooke Williams accurately.

Cody Manning and Kalangadoo’s Jamie Ryan had a tight contest, with Ryan making Manning earn every possession.

Kalangadoo’s goalies Maddy Bonnano and Kori Collins began to find space and made the most of scoring opportunities to increase Kalangadoo’s advantage by 11 at the main break.

The third quarter saw Kalangadoo step up the defence even further.

The defensive circle combination of Lauren Kain and Georgia Gentile made an impact on the game, creating intercepts and making it hard for the Port MacDonnell goalies to get many opportunities.

Mid-way through the third quarter an injury to Port MacDonnell’s Kirby Carrison saw Toni Gilmore enter the match at goal shooter.

Kalangadoo again stepped up the defensive pressure which forced some wayward passing by Port MacDonnell and restricted them to four goals for the quarter.

In the final term Port MacDonnell switched Hein into goal attack and Carrison re-entered the game at goal keeper.

The Demon’s defensive mid-court of Mutch and Kristy Sneath increased their close checking defence and forced Kalangadoo to work hard for every possession.

Bonnano finished the game strong, shooting at 100 per cent for the quarter and Kalangadoo finished the game with a convincing victory.

Best players for Kalangadoo were Collins and Kain, while best for Port MacDonnell were Mutch and Kristy Sneath.
