A CONTINGENT of Limestone Coast junior soccer talents will journey to the world class Gepps Cross State Centre for Football next week.

They will attend a four-day Football SA regional training camp where they will test their skills against the best junior players in the state.

A total of 18 Limestone Coast Football Association athletes have been selected to make the trip and they will hit the pitch in hopes to catch the eye of selectors for the regional state team training squads.

Limestone Coast Football Association CEO Chris Fleetwood said it was a great opportunity for the aspiring players as they attempt to earn recognition at state level.

“We have 13 boys and five girls and they range in age from 11 to 14,” he said.

“They are going up to the brand new football centre at Gepps Cross.

“This is an elite opportunity for our athletes to really test their skills against some of the best kids in the state.”

The opportunity for the young athletes to attend the state-wide event came through their involvement in the Regional Centre of Excellence which is run in Mount Gambier through Football Federation SA.

Their selection will provide them with exposure to skilled and experienced coaches over the four days, with the ultimate goal to be chosen for the regional state team.

“If they do well they will get selected into the state development squads for their age groups,” Fleetwood said.

“From there they will go to state camps that will hopefully lead to state representation at the Australian Championships.”

The training camp is a golden opportunity for those who want to take their soccer to the next level and will provide an insight to the future of the sport in the Limestone Coast.
