THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened the 2022 season on April 7 with the Mixed Triples Championship.

There were 23 team entries that took part in the indoor bowls season opener.

The Saints team of Shirley Gifford, Jennifer Bowering and Gary Bowering won the first semi-final with a 10-3 victory over the combined Post-Tel and Saints team of Kevin Burn, Veronica Opie and Stephen Von Duve.

The second semi-final was contested between the Wandilo Water Rats team of Nicola Bowditch, Brad Errock and Tony Bowditch and a combined Post-Tel and Wandilo team.

The combined team of Jason Kuring, Fiona Pearson and Zac Pearson were unable to match the Water Rats in the semi-final.

The Wandilo Water Rats team claimed victory to advance to the grand final with a 9-3 win before they backed it up with a strong performance in the grand final.

It was a one-sided grand final as they stormed out of the blocks to take a 7-1 lead over the Saints with just two ends remaining.

The Saints fought back in the final two ends, but the deficit was too great for them as the Water rats claimed a 7-5 win.

There was a consolation final contested between the Post-Tel team of Lorraine Van Den Hoogen, Jim Pearson and Craig Pearson and Moorak’s Kathy Gray, Bob Hink and Val Alma.

The Post-Tel team won 8-4.
