THE Tigers will venture onto their home ground for the first time this season when North Gambier hosts West Gambier at Vansittart Park for Round 2 of the Western Border football season tomorrow.

North comes off a good win against East Gambier in the opening round – an impressive result despite missing eight players due to Covid related issues.

On the other side of this week’s contest, West enters the round off the back of a loss to a reinvigorated Casterton Sandford.

The Roos struggled to move the ball forward and convert, with only two goals in the opening half last week.

They will need to up their attack if they are to keep up with South tomorrow.

Nathan Taylor led in front of goal last week with three goals and he will hope to make an impact on the scoreboard again.

Lewis Lean hit the ground running in his return to the club and he will be out to back up his best-on-ground performance, while the likes of Mitchell Cornolo and Kyle Giddings will also want to back up solid showings.

The Tigers shared the ball around well against the Bulldogs and had seven goal scorers for the match.

Nick McInerney patrolled the midfield well and popped up with two goals, while Nick Moretti, Jake Schutz and Sam Stafford also bagged two.

Usual spearhead forward Justin McConnell played a different role on the weekend and his services were utilised through the midfield which earned him a best-on-ground nod from coach Ben Hardy.

It will be interesting to see how the two teams match up tomorrow but it is hard to see anything but a North win, especially if the Tigers are bolstered by returning players.
