A PAIRS event in the form of a two-person ambrose was the challenge for 42 women in last Wednesday’s Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Conditions were ideal to begin with but turned damp towards the end of the round.

However, two pairs both with the same handicap finished with the same score.

Carol Davis and Di O’Donnell, both long hitters, combined well to register 78 off the stick with an 8.5 handicap resulting in 69.5 to claim first prize on a count-back.

The combination of Janina Morrison and Kerry Pedlar had the same score and nett result.

Third place went to Helen Gregory and Kathy Ewer, returning with nett 69.75 and in fourth place, Kate McCormick and Denise Harvey with 71.25.

The pro shot on the eighth hole was won by the Pauline Paterson/Chris Galpin combination, with Paterson’s drive the most accurate.

Ball rundown winners were Karen Forster and her partner Linda Boylan, Lois Harvey/Faye Mainwaring and Vicki Clark/Jan Shanahan.

Saturday saw a smaller field of 15 women contest a stroke round and while most found the course challenging, evergreen Faye Mainwaring mastered it to score 84 off the stick resulting in a nett 71 to take the winner’s voucher.

Mainwaring’s score included six pars and a birdie on the sixth hole.

Vivienne Sulejmani, visitor from the Mount Warren Park Golf Club in Queensland, was only one shot further back to take the runner-up prize with nett 72.

Jennifer Van Rijthoven led the way in the ball run down winners with nett 73, from Helen Gregory 72, Lois Harvey 81 and Camilla Knowles 82.

Lorraine Stratford was the most accurate on the par 3 eighth hole to take the pro shot, while Vivienne Sulejmani was nearest the pin on the 16th.
