ON a busy day at the Blue Lake Golf Club, the women’s March monthly medal stroke competition coincided with the third and final qualifying round of the Cafe Belgiorno’s handicap championships and the third round of the Colin’s Court Butcher Captain’s Trophy.

It was testament to the long course set-up that only one player, monthly medal winner Josie Ashby, was able to play to her handicap.

The drizzly rain for most of the morning added to the challenge, with only a few par’s recorded.

Ashby also took out the top voucher for Division 1, playing to the daily scratch rating of 72.

Her scorecard showed pars on the fourth and ninth holes for 92/20/72.

Second went to Lynda Nannings whose score of 100/27/73 included a par on the dog-leg par 4 15th hole.

Lee-Anne Medhurst claimed third place with a score of 96/21/75.

A run of pars on the back nine the – 13th, 14th and 15th – would have put the win in her sights but unfortunately she fell short at the end.

It was women’s president Beryl Mahoney who came away with the chocolates in Division 2 with a score of 106/30/76, closely chased by Lyn Annand.

Mahoney blew out on the front nine with a 57 but was able to make amends on the back, some eight strokes better with a 49.

Annand, known for her expertise, calmly went about her game, with two even nines of 54/54, including a par on the fifth hole.

Nearest to pin second shot winners were Medhurst and Jo Gogan, while Annand claimed the pro shot.

Novelty prizes were handed out for chip-in ferrets to Trudy Herbert, Medhurst and Kate Hommelhoff.

A birdie prize went to Helen Stratford on the par 5 fourth hole and least putts prize winners were Medhurst with 26 and Annand with 30.

Meanwhile, 16 women played in a par competition with some close scores recorded by the top nine.

Cherryl Hill had to wait on a count-back from Lesley McPherson, both scoring +2.

Hill had two pars on the front and four on the back, while McPherson had two pars on the front and four plusses on the back, to give Hill the nod.

Hommelhoff came in square to her handicap of 33.

Stratford, Jorja Morale and Josie Ashby all finished on -1, while Di Perryman, Beryl Mahoney and Fiona Punton finished with -2.

Punton had a eagle on the par 4 dog-leg 15th hole.

The best back nine score of +3 went to Hill.
