MOUNT Gambier Cycling Club junior members, Niel van Niekerk, Kai Arbery and Sarah Dally, will take on the best of the nation’s riders at the National Junior Track Championships to be held at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane later this month.

The Junior Track Championships will take place from March 24 to 27, with the Senior Track Championships overlapping from March 26-30, allowing the young competitors to see their heroes in action.

All riders have been selected to participate in South Australian colours at the National Championships, with van Niekerk and Arbery competing in the Under 17 Men’s category, while Dally will compete against the Under 19 Women.

Van Niekerk is no stranger to the national stage, having previously competed at the National Championships, while Dally and Arbery will make their debuts.

All three riders are members of the Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy Track Cycling Program, with Dally and Arbery joining after being identified in 2019 through the Talent ID program conducted by the South Australia Sports Institute in conjunction with LCRSA.

Van Niekerk has a packed racing schedule and will compete in a variety of individual and team events, including Teams Pursuit, Individual Pursuit, Points Score, Scratch Race, Keirin, 500m Time Trial and the Omnium.

Arbery will focus on Sprint events, joining van Niekerk in the 500m Time Trial as well as the Team Sprint and Individual Sprint events.

Dally’s program is predominantly endurance based, competing in the Scratch Race, Keirin, Individual Pursuit, Teams Pursuit and 500m Time Trial.
