Wind plays havoc

MOTHER Nature played her hand on Saturday, as 22-knot winds and gust much higher put a halt to trailer-boat sailing at the Port MacDonnell Sailing Club.

However, the wind died off overnight, settling into a steady 12 knots by Sunday morning which allowed the first dinghy race of the year to go ahead.

The racing program for the day consisted of three short races back-to-back, with four boats launching off the beach in front of the club.

In the first race, only three of the four boats finished, with Sabre “Billy”, skippered by Nick Watson,

finishing first followed by Adrian Romescu in Laser “LucyLou”.

Jennifer and David Jones in their Sabre “Black Pearl” had to be towed to shore by Brad Mann and Stephen Dyble after their mast fitting snapped causing the mast to fall, which meant they were not able to continue sailing for the day.

The second race started with three boats on the water.

Again Billy took first place, with Dennis Illman and Border Collie Lucy on Lucy coming in second.

Unfortunately LucyLou did not finish the second race.

The final race was only contested between Billy and Lucy, with Billy once more taking out first

place.
